Our office provides a fun environment where your child can develop a relationship of trust with our dentists as they grow from being a toddler to becoming a teen. We also want to make sure that you as a parent are comfortable with the dentist you choose for your child.
What is Children's Dentistry?
As parents, we all want to ensure that our children develop and maintain a consistent oral hygiene routine that will continue into adulthood. At Family Dental Centre, we will encourage your active participation in a program to take care your children's dental and oral health, including teaching your child how to brush and floss in a way that is fun and enjoyable.
At Family Dental Centre, we believe that it is important for children to begin their dental experience at an early age, which is why we follow the recommendation of the Canadian Dental Association for children to have an assessment by a dentist within six months of the eruption of the first tooth or by one year of age at the latest.
Tooth decay is considered the single most common chronic childhood disease and accounts for hundreds of hours of lost school time. By assessing children every six months to one year, we are able to identify and treat problematic areas in the mouth with procedures such as white fillings to treat existing cavities and fluoride treatments to strengthen the teeth between cleanings. Early visits also help us identify and treat problems that may affect proper nutritional intake due to an improper bite. Early visits also help us identify and treat concerns related to speech development, habit control for thumb sucking or other oral habits that may impact the health of the teeth and gums, as well as to diagnose any problems with how the teeth are erupting and plan for future orthodontic intervention.
Our team of dental professionals will educate your child in a fun, interactive, and positive environment in order to emphasize the importance of how proper brushing, flossing, and healthy nutrition impacts your child's oral health.
By following these guidelines, it is our goal to help your child grow up with healthy teeth and gums that will last them a lifetime!
Your Child's First Visit
Your child should have their first dentist appointment around the age of 2 years old. At this age they will be introduced to what will become the familiar with the sights and sounds as well as the friendly staff of a dental office.
Stages for Children
As a infant grows and their teeth come in, it is important that they learn the why they should practice daily brushing and flossing in order to prevent cavities and other oral health problems.
